James Tutton – Co-founder and Director of Smiling Mind
In 2012, James and fellow entrepreneur Jane Martino founded not-for-profit Smiling Mind which is now Australia’s largest mindfulness meditation training program. Smiling Mind was created as a response to the stress epidemic in Australia’s youth and is supported by globally recognised research showing the positive wellbeing outcomes delivered by mindfulness meditation.
Smiling Mind has a deep and engaged user base which is reflected by the 650,000 downloads of its app, presence on the curriculum of more than 7,000 schools, a workplace program that operates in companies like IBM, Google, Lend Lease and Twitter; as well as partnerships with other leading not-for-profits such as Beyond Blue and the Red Cross.
James is a also Director of Melbourne’s preeminent design and socially focused development group Neometro. James combines this Neometro role with a portfolio of complementary non-executive positions in the mental health, education and business spheres.
He has a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) and is currently co-writing a mindfulness book for Hardie Grant to be published in 2016, reflecting his deep passion for progressive thinking and integrating mindfulness into Australian social and corporate culture.
